Our Focus For October

  • Currently, as the Aboriginal Architect Shawn is in the beginning stages of researching culturally relevant housing options for the Spokane Tribe of Indians on its aboriginal homelands.
  • A community vision statement will be conducted by Tua and Ben. It will be used as a basis for the Sustainable Community Project. This visioning exercise is a collaborative effort that will help you, the community, and tribal council on conceiving a sustainable future for the reservation and improve the quality of life for everyone.
  • Richard is currently assembling a steering committee to guide Antithesis Research as to what the community needs are. He continues to analyze the input we have received from our various information sessions.
  • Constructing a sustainable community project website is what Chanel is focusing on. The website will be up and running soon, with constant information about the project plans, expectations, and various other topics.
  • Gloria is working on the ongoing comprehensive grant list for the six livability principles.
She will then contact departments that this applies to, and thoroughly explain the project.
  • Chamisa is transitioning into her new position as the Planning and Economic Development Department Director. Negotiations are underway.  Budget revisions and staff changes are being finalized.
  • Over the next month we will be coordinating efforts with our local and regional collaborators, which include Eastern Washington University, the Shawl Society, Community Minded Enterprises, and the Wellpinit High School.
  • Lastly, we are forming a steering committee to assist with Sustainable Community Project decisions.  These decisions, such as finalizing plan goals, objectives, and policies, will be based on all community, tribal administration and Tribal Council input.  Any tribal member or SIR resident is welcome to participate but must make a two and a half year commitment.
